THE SILENT WEIGHT MEN CARRY

min read · DONiTSH!T Editorial

Strong doesn't mean silent." This article answers the questions Why do men struggle to ask for help? What happens when a man feels he must always be strong? How does emotional suppression affect the body, sleep, stress, and relationships?

**LET'S TALK ABOUT MEN.**

Not the superhero version, Not the Instagram motivational quote version, Not the "I'm fine" version.

The REAL version.

The guy fixing your plumbing, The father working double shifts. The entrepreneur staring at the ceiling at 3 a.m. The stay-at-home dad trying not to lose his mind between school runs and laundry. The athlete whose body hurts. The husband who worries about bills. The man who hasn't cried in twenty years but somehow feels like he's drowning.

This Men's Mental Health Month, DONiTSHiT wants to ask a simple question:

**Who checks on the men?**

Because many men have become experts at carrying weight.

The weight of expectations,The weight of responsibility. The weight of being "the strong one." And sometimes, the heaviest thing a man carries is the belief that he must carry it all alone.

**WHY DO MEN STRUGGLE TO ASK FOR HELP?**

Most men weren't taught to ask for help, They were taught to solve problems. As little boys, many heard things like: "Stop crying." "Man up." "Be strong." "Don't be soft." "No one is coming to save you."

Over time, many men learn a dangerous lesson:

**If I need help, I have failed. I'm a sissy**

So they become self-reliant, Then hyper-independent, Then emotionally isolated, A man can ask another man how to rebuild an engine,How to install a water heater, How to trade stocks, How to barbecue a steak.

But asking:

"I'm scared." "I'm struggling." "I don't know what to do." I'm STUCK!

For many men, that feels harder than lifting a truck. The irony?

The strongest teams in the world ask for support, Elite athletes have coaches, CEOs have advisors, Military units rely on brotherhood.

Yet many men believe they alone should survive without assistance, That's not strength! That's survival mode wearing a superhero costume.

**WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A MAN FEELS HE MUST ALWAYS BE STRONG?**

He becomes exhausted, Not physically. Soul exhausted. Because strength without rest becomes suffering....Imagine carrying a backpack, Every day someone adds a brick, Financial pressure, Relationship pressure, Work pressure, Fatherhood, Ageing parents, Health concerns, Dreams that haven't happened yet.......A football team that keeps disappointing him every weekend!!!! **(That last one deserves its own therapy session.) ** Eventually the backpack becomes so heavy that standing upright feels normal, Many men don't even realize how tired they are, They call it adulthood, They call it responsibility, They call it being a man. But underneath, something dangerous happens. They stop feeling, They stop talking, They stop connecting. They become.......functional Not fulfilled. Present.......But not truly alive.

**THE EMOTIONAL COST OF SUPRESSION**

Many men don't express emotions because they disappear. They suppress emotions because they don't know where to put them. The problem is: Emotions don't vanish....... They relocate. What isn't expressed emotionally often appears physically. The body keeps score. Stress becomes headaches. Anxiety becomes stomach problems. Fear becomes anger, Loneliness becomes overworking,Overexertion. Sadness becomes emotional numbness. Some men don't cry!!! Instead, they get back pain, High blood pressure. Poor sleep. Burnout. Irritability. Addictive to something.. an activity, food, socialmedia, Constant fatigue. there is no balance! The body eventually says what the mouth refuses to say.

**##**SLEEP - THE SILENT CASUALTY****

Many men lie in bed physically tired but mentally wide awake. The house is quiet, Everyone is asleep, Yet the mind is running a Kenyan marathon. Bills, Deadlines, Children, Mortgage, Career, Rejection, Relationships, Future, Past mistakes....(That one embarrassing thing from 2009.)

Everything shows up at midnight...(hello darkness...°)

Many men don't have insomnia, They have unprocessed stress, And stress is expensive, Poor sleep affects: * Testosterone * Energy * Focus * Mood * Recovery * Motivation The man thinks he needs more coffee...blue pill.. His nervous system is begging for peace.

**STRESS DOES NOT LOOK LIKE STRESS IN MEN**

Sometimes stress looks like:

"I'll deal with it later." Working longer hours. Drinking more, Scrolling endlessly, Becoming emotionally distant. Losing patience, Snapping at loved ones, Avoiding difficult conversations. Many men don't say: "I'm overwhelmed." They say: "I'm just tired." And sometimes what they mean is: .... "I'm carrying more than anyone realizes."

**RELATIONSHIPS FEEL IT TOO!**

The tragedy of emotional suppression is that it doesn't stay contained. It leaks. Into marriages, Friendships, Families, Parenting, Communication. A man may deeply love his family. But if he never expresses fear, sadness, vulnerability, or uncertainty, the people around him only get access to part of him. And intimacy cannot grow where honesty does not exist. People don't connect through perfection. They connect through truth. The strongest men are not the ones who never struggle. They are the ones brave enough to say: "I'm struggling right now."

**THE DONiTSH!T RAW TRUTH**

At DONiTSH!T, we believe wellness isn't just protein shakes, six-packs, and step counts. MENTAL HEALTH is wellness. Sleep is wellness. Connection is wellness. Purpose is wellness. A healthy man is not a machine.....He's a human being. He needs movement, He needs rest, He needs good food, He needs meaningful relationships, He needs purpose. HE NEEDS BALANCE. And sometimes..........He needs help. There is no shame in that. Not one ounce!

**A WORD TO THE MEN READING THIS**

You don't have to carry everything alone, You don't have to earn rest, You don't have to prove your worth through suffering, You don't have to be the strongest person in every room. The world has enough men pretending to be okay. What it needs are men courageous enough to be real.

As the Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius reminded us:

*"You have power over your mind—not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength."*

Notice he didn't say suppression. He said AWARENESS.

And Carl Jung, one of the greatest thinkers on the human mind, wrote:

*"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."*

Many men spend years fighting battles they never stop to understand. The anger, The exhaustion, The loneliness, The pressure. The sadness, The fear, These aren't weaknesses. They're signals. And signals are meant to be listened to. So this Men's Mental Health Month, DONiTSH!T has one message: **Strong doesn't mean silent.** A strong man is NOT the man who never falls.A strong man is the one who knows when it's time to put down the weight he's been carrying alone.

And that, gentlemen, is one hell of a workout..BE ![REAL.]()
